MODERNIDAD
SQUARE
Public Space. Creation of Modernidad Square in Sant Andreu District, Barcelona.
The project Modernidad Square in Sant Andreu District is located tangentially to the most important road junction in the city: Nus de la Trinitat. It was built for the Olympic Games (Rounds).
The square is conceived as a public surface, a small oasis within the perimeter chaos; designed with the intention of creating a specific and delimited place. Hence the elements of the crosier, the bench and the pergola, which end the public space by creating a façade.
This project is carried out in collaboration with other municipal architects and I explored, for the first time in our design, the possibilities of draining pavement (large prefabricated pieces of concrete and grass placed in setoff like dunes). This solution had never been carried out, which I didn’t know back then, and to this day they continue to exist, with more or less maintenance.
