LAS AMÉRICAS
Closure and rehabilitation of a public/private space inside Las Américas building, Sarrià District, Sant Gervasi, Barcelona. In collaboration with Sergio López.
In this project, the insecurity of the interior space at night required an effective but dignified enclosure, additionally, leaks and humidity coming from the center of the block were leaking into the underground parking lot consequently requiring a new paving.
We designed a very rigid but light-looking stainless steel vertical bar grille, solved by a double grill that enables the light but provides more inertia to the whole construction. This arrangement allows the section of the stainless steel tubes to be minimal.
Ultimately, interior planters are created to structure a plant barrier in order to allow more privacy for the interior space. The rest of the project consisted of paving the ground with two-tone granite, locating the spaces for good lighting and building some ovoid-shaped planter-benches.
