Public Space. Monument to Nicolas Salmerón, Gracia District, Barcelona.

In this project a monument was built to commemorate the opening of the new Nicolas Salmerón square, the name that the current Gran de Gracia street had in the last century. It is located at the beginning of Gran de Gracia, welcoming the neighborhood, and part of the square where trams used to circulate was pedestrianized.

The monument represents the end of Jardinets and the beginning of Gran Street and “collects” the two fronts of Jardinets de Gracia through a diagonal cut that symbolizes Avenida Diagonal. In the same way, there is also an inscription and a map of Gracia District made of stainless steel and side lighting. It was listed as a monument.

Has Mr. Salmerón fallen from grace? The sculpture fell, it was broken and was thrown away in the municipal warehouses. The restoration was tried and commissioned in 2013, after a newspaper article for its recovery, but to no avail.
